EMR opens recycling facilities in Ashford
Posted on 20 November 2018EMR, one of the world’s leading metal recycling companies, has opened a new facility in Ashford.
The new purpose built metal recycling facility, based on Brunswick Road, was officially opened by The Mayor of Ashford, Councillor Mrs Jessamy Blanford on Thursday (15 November).
Impressed by the scale of the new yard Councillor Mrs Jessamy Blanford commented: “Thank you to EMR for inviting me to open their new facility.
“I am amazed at the scale of the operation and impressed by the fact that we have a leading recycling facility based in the heart of our community. Recycling is so important as our natural resources won’t last forever and landfilling is unsustainable. This facility will help both residents and local businesses to recycle their waste metal and end of life vehicles.
“We are excited to welcome EMR into Ashford and wish them every success.”
Developed from a single business in Rochdale, EMR has over 170 operational sites worldwide and employs over 4,000 people. EMR recycles around 10 million tonnes of metal each year, which contributes to the saving of approximately 10 million tonnes of CO2 every year.
EMR has invested over £4 million into this purpose built facility which has a Lefort 1000 shear that allows EMR to process oversize scrap generated by manufacturing and demolition industries. They have also invested in two weighbridges that will allow customers to be in and out of the site quickly and has developed a non-ferrous facility for the local tradespeople and general public.

The new site has secured around six new jobs, including apprenticeships and supports a number of other associated businesses in the immediate area.
EMR Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Brady said: “I’d like to thank The Mayor of Ashford, Councillor Mrs Jessamy Blanford for agreeing to mark the opening of our new facility by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
“I would also like to thank our customers and partners, without whom this development would not have been possible. Also particular thanks to Keep Ashford Clean, a community group who are really making a difference to Ashford. EMR puts a great deal of importance on supporting the communities and groups that are close to our sites, and we look forward to continuing to support Keep Ashford Clean for many years to come.
“At EMR we recycle everything from a toaster to an aircraft carrier and invest heavily in developing our own technologies in our quest to be the global leader in the provision of sustainable materials. We provide real world recycling solutions to our customers who range from the general public to some of the UK’s largest manufacturing companies.”
The new site has secured around six new jobs, including apprenticeships and supports a number of other associated businesses in the immediate area. Within the wider region of Kent and Sussex, EMR also has over 100 employees across five core sites: Erith, Rochester, Newhaven, Shoreham and Portsmouth.
The depot is open to the public from today (Monday 19 November).
