Model railway enthusiasts will be heading to Elwick Place in Ashford town centre this weekend for the opening of AIMREC – the Ashford International Model Railway Exhibition Centre.

Six huge model railway sets have been laid out in Unit 2 of Elwick Place. Open to the public free of charge on Saturdays and Sundays, the AIMREC board will use the unit as a marketing suite to promote their longer term plans to create a permanent model railway entertainment and educational centre in the Kent market town.

AIMREC will be open every weekend from 7 December, 10am to 4pm, and will be used to display model railway layouts in various scales.

AIMREC’s Cliff Parsons said potential investors will be given a tantalising glimpse into what the much-anticipated project could look like.

The suite will be open every weekend from 7 December, 10am to 4pm and will be used to display model railway layouts in various scales, along with display information panels showing the public, investors and sponsors of the project, its aims for a future.

Cliff Parsons said “We are delighted be hosting the layouts of the Men of Kent team from the Channel 5 series The Great Model Railway Challenge, with opportunities to meet the team and talk about their experience on the TV show.”
