Dover Place Works CompletePosted on 19 December 2018
The final phase of public realm improvement works in Dover Place has been completed, Ashford Borough Council has announced.
The council-funded scheme has come in on time and under budget and includes granite paving and new street lighting columns to match the works that were completed in the first phase of works in 2015. The junction into Dover Place has been improved under a Section 278 agreement with Kent County Council to upgrade the existing crossing point there.
The scheme complements the trees and other soft landscaping already installed past the newly-opened Connect 38 (Commercial Quarter) office block.
The projects improves the look, feel and connectivity of the area and builds on the wider development in this area of the town, supporting the recent improvements and tying in with the new Commercial Quarter building.
For the past 12 weeks, through-traffic has been routed through Station Approach via the access barrier at the front of International House and through the Dover Place car park, exiting back onto Station Road.
Ashford Borough Council commissioned the contractor Conway to undertake the project, and it has been working closely with businesses who use Dover Place to maintain access as far as reasonably practicably, to ensure disruption has been kept to a minimum.
