Hundreds of businesses have responded to Kent County Council’s (KCC) call for views on the lack of international rail services stopping in Kent.

From October 2023 to January 2024, a business survey was launched to understand the impact international rail services not calling in Kent is having on trade. The survey was run by Kent County Council (KCC) and supported by Ashford Borough Council and Dartford Borough Council.

The survey received over 500 responses from Kent business representatives with nearly all calling for a return of stopping services in the county.

Using the results, work will commence to build a case with the aim of persuading operators and government to get back on track in what is the Channel Tunnel’s 30th anniversary year.

“We will now continue to analyse the views that were shared with us and build a case that can be presented to central government and the international rail operators.”

Neil Baker, KCC’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport

In addition, there is currently a petition calling for the return of the Eurostar which has reached 50,000 signatures, further demonstrating the strength of support from the public for the service to return to the borough.
