Hollaway
An award-winning architectural and interior design practice based in Kent, Hollaway is known for key projects across the county including their involvement in the re-invention of Dreamland in Margate, and designing Rocksalt Restaurant and Bar in Folkestone.
With studios in Hythe and Kings Cross, Hollaway works in Ashford as masterplanners and have delivered a number of high-grade public buildings in the town centre, including Curious Brewery and Elwick Place.
Their ambition with Curious Brewery was to design “a curious building for a curious beer,” in a town centre location that challenges the norm that breweries are located out of town. Throughout the design, Hollaway considered the end use of the building as a working factory for beermaking, as well as a unique food and drink destination.
Elwick Place, Ashford’s entertainment and leisure hub, which opened in December 2018, was another major project for the practice. It was designed to create a new public building that the town could be proud of and to increase Ashford’s night time economy by giving people another reason to come to the town centre.
Hollaway also operates elsewhere in the South East and on a number of exciting international projects, but having originated within Kent, their focus remains within the county where they feel they can really make a difference.
Founder and Principal Partner, Guy Hollaway explains how Ashford is an exciting place to be: “It has something that no other Kent town has to the same degree, it has the land and opportunity for development and change, but also the political will for that change as well. Ashford Borough Council is one of the most forward-thinking councils that we work with. They’re prepared to invest in the town and the future, and work with all these different people to make it happen.”

Following the success of Ashford projects such as Curious Brewery and Elwick Place, Hollaway are involved in more exciting projects in the town, including Riverside Park, Ashford Railway Works and the former Kent Wool Growers site.
