Making the case to Eurostar

Posted on 22 July 2025

Businesses explain the impact of Eurostar services going, and the opportunities their return could bring to Kent in an exclusive video produced by local filming company Border Point Films.

Thanks to Gusbourne, Champneys Eastwell Manor Hotel and Spa, McArthurGlenn Ashford Designer Outlet and Visit Kent for supporting the campaign in this latest video.

The council has continued to campaign for the return of Eurostar services to Ashford and are in regular dialogue with Eurostar and the government and partners, including Kent County Council, Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, Visit Kent, Locate in Kent, neighbouring councils, and local MPs to ensure services at Ashford International Station return.

Countdown to 30 year anniversary

On 8 January 1996, the UK’s second Eurostar station opened - Ashford International Station. It heralded a new era in international rail travel for Ashford and East Kent passengers.

Its opening came after an 18-month, £80million construction project, which had started in June 1994, to transform the town’s station into ‘Ashford International’. Two new platforms were built for domestic trains to replace those used by Eurostar.

29 years on the group behind the ‘Bring Back Eurostar Campaign’ want to see them return, in time for its 30th anniversary.

The services at Ashford International Station are not only important for existing businesses and travellers, they are also important for our future commercial investments. There was a public outcry when Eurostar made their initial announcement and the local strength of feeling is clearly reflected by recent meetings and the petition that has been launched, which we welcome
