The hotel’s first guests checked in from August 2021, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony led by The Mayor of Ashford, Cllr Callum Knowles taking place on 5 October. The opening was attended by local businesses and Ashford Borough Council, Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce and Visit Kent.

David Mellish, Construction Director, and Mark Rees, Commercial Director of Rees Mellish, explain why Ashford was the perfect location for the hotel: “We saw Ashford as a very up-and-coming area with great opportunity for growth and development. Our location, opposite the Ashford International train station, was selected as it will be key for both business and leisure travellers.

“The town is also a great location and key hub for other parts of Kent, so offers the perfect base for those wishing to explore the whole of the South East. The wider borough of Ashford also has fantastic retail facilities, a rural setting that is close to the coast and excellent transport links to London and Europe. It really is an exciting location in Kent.”

Rees Mellish are at the forefront of the construction consultancy and property development industry, with extensive experience of hotel projects across the UK including The Doddington Estate in Cheshire, The Greenwich Hotel in London and The View Hotel in Folkestone. The Hampton by Hilton Ashford International is the first project that the company has undertaken with Ashford Borough Council, but they are strong advocates for the local area for business.

David and Mark continue: “The future is looking bright for Ashford and the mood is very positive. There are many new businesses relocating to the area and a large amount of development planned in the area, including the proposed TV and film studios at Newtown Works. We would highly recommend Ashford as a place for start-ups or companies looking to relocate.”
